Jmac:
I'll
be honest, I saw the advertisements (ad-vert- tiss-ments = British
English) for it on Hulu for at least a month before I thought, “ehhhh
I’ll give it an episode or two.” Two things drew me to it; 1. the buddy
comedy aspect of two bros taking care of a baby together, and 2. the
sheer supercalifragilistic hotness of Scarlett Alice Johnson. I went
into it thinking that is was so wholly British that only my anglofile
friend Rebecca could ever enjoy it, and no red-blooded gun toting
American could go for it...... well I was wrong.
The
show only has two short (7 to 8 episodes as is the BBC custom) seasons
(so far, Thank God!), which are all available for FREE on regular unpaid
Hulu, as of June 13th 2013. This show, while based on the interactions
of teenagers coming into college age, has something for everyone....
well everyone that won't get bent out of shape about mild cursing, or an
acceptance of alternative lifestyles... which there is very very few
of. Mainly, for American audiences, its just a British perspective of
things, and if you just gave a shot you would realize we really are not
that different.
The
show revolves around Jamie who accidentally knocks up Laura after just
meeting her at a party, and how their two groups of friends don't
meld... at all, and how Jamie strives to be the model father, and ummm
baby-daddy (which really a lot of chavs here and in Britain could learn
from) all while not really being in a real relationship with Laura.
Jamie’s
entourage consists of; his parents who are hilarious and really bring
perspective to his life, Mike, Jamie’s idiot and faithful friend, and
Beth, who holds a secret love for Jamie. Laura’s entourage consists of;
her parents, who are dealing with their own relationship issues, and her
best friend Danielle, who is to leave for university soon, and leave
her best friend surrounded by hormones and nappies.
I
have not shared any real spoilers in this review, and I urge everyone
to watch this, if you want a real heartfelt comedy, that while goofy and
funny, still deals with real characters and storylines that could very
well connect close to home.
I give it 4.7 posh crisps out of 5.
It is simply brilliant and “like Narnia... but sexy” (inside show joke)
PS: I can totally relate to Jamie’s dad, as he struggles to look for a job... which are hard to come by these days.
