Jmac Review:
007
Skyfall: I just purchased this movie or rather my wonderful wife did
for me from her birthday amazon card, and I couldn't be happier. Skyfall
shows us that the new needs the old and vise versa. The 1953 Aston
Marton, that 007 won in the first Daniel Craig series was brought back
and its souped up like the oldest Aston Marton when Connery was 007. The
movie should really be entitled "007 and the Oedipal Complex" as it
shows just how much M means to 007. Full of classic 007 lines and action
throughout, Skyfall delivers both a new take on the series and a return
to its roots, more so than any of the other Craig films.
For
instance there is a new Q, who although many thought was too modern to
work, fits perfectly for the new 007, as he combines his work as a blunt
instrument and a more technological understanding as he fights
non-state actors. The series also re-introduced Money Penny, which I had
been looking for, for three films. The character gets a badass back
story, which puts this iteration of Money Penny far above all other
Money Pennys in my appropriation, because we know know she can handle
herself.
The
villain in the newest Bond, shares qualities with several other Bond
villains, menacing teeth like Jaws in Moonraker, pure hatred of Bond, or
what he symbolizes, due to some altercation years before, like Alec
Trevelyan in GoldenEye, and apparent infinite wealth, like Auric
Goldfinger in Goldfinger. This villain more than most others, really
knows how to push Bond’s buttons, as he is a master of manipulation.
The
film is visually very very beautiful, with filming locations all over
the world, with perhaps one of the highest number of on scene locations
of any Bond films. The film locales range from Scotland on the far west
to Shanghai in the east, with numerous locations in the middle, such as
Istanbul, what appears to be a Thai beach, and a mysterious abandoned
island. The scene in the unoccupied Shanghai skyscraper is probably one
of my favorite, but the intro to the party following is also visually
stunning, and leaves me wanting to put on a suit, light some candles,
and shove myself off a bank in a john boat, will humming the Bond theme
song and holding my hand up like a pistol.
So
in summation, everyone who loves 007 will love this film as it provides
a load of back story for 007, and as it drives the franchise into the
new age (but still needing the old) of 007. Best line of the movie:
"Welcome to Scotland".
Even though I love 007 and its hard to be objective, I give it a 5 golden guns out of 5. As the British would say purely Brilliant!

Review: Skyfall is a great....song by Adell. I honestly don’t remember
the plot of this movie and I think that says a lot. Not that the movie
is bad. The action scenes are well paced and what dialogue there is
follows the James Bond mode of slick and full of innuendo. Daniel Craig
is attractive as always in his rugged way. The villain is creepy and
threatening. I should probably revisit but Jmac seemed happy to have me
half watch this movie while reading. With me and James Bond that’s as
good as it gets. I’ll watch the talking, skip the action, and listen to
the music.
For the world’s most indestructible liver I’ll give Mr. Bond 3 out of 5 martinis, shaken not stirred.
