Jmac:
"Over
there, Over there, Send the word, send the word, over there, that the
Yanks are coming!" Spielberg again, makes another movie about how
warring sides and those in between are so similar we shouldn't ever go
to war, to the detriment of the movie.
Most
of the movie was about people complaining about not wanting to go...
which is true, but not ‘war movie’ material. Sir Stevie made this point
with Munich in an action oriented way... a period piece with the same
message was not warranted.
If
you really like animals and especially horses, you will just love War
Horse. If you wanted a war movie, don't even think about it.
The
cinematography is was very beautiful, but if you saw the trailer, then
you saw just about all the amazing cinematography moments, and those
that you didn't see, you could go your whole life without and never miss
them.
I
give it a 2.2 heartfelt looks into a horse’s eye out of 5. What does a
horse;s eye look like when it blinks..... I’ll let you decide. It’s
extremely slow to get into.
PS: For me not to like a Spielberg film that is saying a lot.
Kmac:
I
really wanted to like this movie. I got the sense from early reviews
that it was a war movie that actually had very little to do with war.
Those were the parts I did enjoy, the non war parts. I found the action
involving the little boy and his horse and life on the farm to be
enjoyable. I like these little slice of life type scenes. These bored
Jmac. As soon as the action left England for the war I found it harder
to watch. I have a weak stomach and even if the violence wasn’t terribly
graphic I still found it hard to watch. This part bored me. We
definitely were not enjoying this movie at the same time.
It
is a very pretty movie but one in which you can see most of the best
shots in the trailer. I feel Spielberg may have taken a play from his
buddy George Lucas’s playbook once he found CGI. If looks pretty, and
sounds pretty, the characters are just window dressing. Someone needs to
poke Spielberg in the nose with an ET finger and tell him no.
Overall it just wasn’t a movie we could both get into. I give this 2.5 out of 5 slow trots.
