Jmac:
'The
Edge' tells the story of a group of guys (Alec Baldwin, Anthony
Hopkins, and "WAAAALLLLTTTT from Lost, I don't know his name, nor do I
really care to look it up) lost in the Alaskan wilderness and their
struggle to survive as a man eating bear chases them. Rrrawwarr!
In terms of survival movies, this was full of old Indian remedies for
various things, and just by watching it you could pick up something that
if you are ever trapped out in the wild, may just save your life.
While
this movie is older, its is much better than its essential remake ‘The
Grey’ with Liam Neeson, but both are totally enjoyable films if you like
survival against terrible odds type movies.
There
is also a most dangerous game aspect throughout the movie as Baldwin
and Hopkins are at odds with each other over Hopkin's model wife and
family fortune.
It
appears to be shot entirely on location in Alaska, and maybe parts of
Canada as well, so the scenery is stunning, and it really makes you want
to go trout fishing with all the rocky rivers shown.
Since
I really enjoy movies with just man and nature I thoroughly enjoyed
this one, and I give it a 4.3 grizzly bear ripped off limbs out of 5.
